A Personal Journey Through Loss
Megan lost her aunt, who had been a mother figure in her life. In the midst of grief and uncertainty, she found comfort and stability in the presence of Michelle Belton, owner of Companion Home Care, and our caregiving team.
Michelle personally met Megan’s family at the hospital, helping them navigate difficult and constantly changing circumstances. When the need for at-home hospice care arose, Michelle put her clients above her own plans—even canceling a vacation—so that Megan’s aunt would not go without support.
Going Above and Beyond
Despite a full schedule of clients, Michelle stepped in herself, working long, demanding hours to ensure Megan’s aunt received the best possible care. For over a week, she worked 20-hour days, returning home only briefly to rest before returning to the family’s side.
During this time, she kept Megan’s aunt clean, comfortable, and dignified, while also tending to the home environment. She gave the family space when they needed it, occupied the children so adults could share quiet conversations, and guided them gently through the final days of their loved one’s life.
Care That Extends Beyond the Physical
Megan recalls how Michelle’s presence offered both strength and comfort. “I was so scared and beyond sad, but Michelle held my hand through it all,” she wrote. Together, they shared tears, laughter, and tender moments, creating a sense of peace in a profoundly difficult time.
Even after Megan’s aunt passed, Michelle stayed by the family’s side. She called hospice, provided reassurance, and remained until the funeral home arrived. Through it all, she was not just a caregiver—she became part of the family’s story.
